James Mumper, M.D.
Medical Director
Dr. Mumper joined the PartnerMD team in November 2002 to take
the next step in an impressive career as one of the area’s leading family
practitioners.
Dr. Mumper has been a highly respected family physician for 16
years in the Richmond area offices of Virginia Physicians. During that time, he
served for 13 years as Clinical Investigator for the practice and in 1997 was
named Medical Director of the group’s Department of Clinical Research. Dr.
Mumper has been the principal investigator in more than 25 Phase II, III, and
IV clinical trials dealing with several of his areas of particular expertise,
including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and infectious diseases.
He served as Chairman of the Institutional Review Board for
Virginia Physicians from 1994 to 1997 and Chairman of the Department of Family
Practice for McGuire Medical Group in Richmond from 1991 to 1997. He also was a
member of the Board of Directors for McGuire Medical Group from 1994 to 2000.
Dr. Mumper received a B.A. in 1979 from Bridgewater College in
Bridgewater, Va., and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University
of Virginia School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his residency at Roanoke
Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va., serving as Chief Resident from 1985 to 1986.
Dr. Mumper is a member of the American Academy of Family
Physicians and the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. He is licensed by the
Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by the American Board of Family
Practice.
Dr. Mumper lives in Richmond with his wife Pamela and two
children, Laura and John.
Virginia Kladder, M.D., MPH
Executive Physician & Director of Women’s Health
Dr. Kladder joined PartnerMD in August 2004 continuing a career dedicated to providing quality primary care and preventive medicine.
Dr. Kladder’s specialty is Internal Medicine with a focus on women’s health. She is formally trained in gynecology, breast health, and mental health, and she is well versed in the
management of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hypothyroidism. Dr. Kladder focuses extensively on bone, breast, and reproductive issues that women face. In addition, she
evaluates and counsels women on the health implications of lifespan transitions, menopause, and hormones.
Dr. Kladder has served as an internist at the Richmond VA Medical Center, and as a physician with expertise in bone health and osteoporosis, she was a provider in the Center’s Metabolic
Bone Clinic.
Dr. Kladder received a B.S. in chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University. She received both Master of Public Health and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the Medical College of Virginia where she also completed specialized training in women’s health.
Dr. Kladder is a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the American College of Physicians. She is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Kladder is also an Assistant Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University teaching medical students about clinical practice. Dr. Kladder is a native of Richmond, Virginia and currently resides in Glen Allen, Virginia with her husband, Jon and daughter, Sofie.
Stuart Solan, M.D.
Voted "Best Family Physician in Richmond" for 1998, 2000 and 2004 in a poll
by Richmond Magazine, Dr. Stuart Solan has now joined PartnerMD to continue
a remarkable career in medicine.
Dr. Solan has held various leadership positions in the Virginia Academy of
Family Physicians since 1985, including president in 1993-94. He has served
as a Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Practice at the Medical College
of Virginia since since 1982, and Associate Clinical Professor of Family
Practice since 2000. He has consulting privileges at both the Henrico
Doctor's Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond.
After receiving a B.A. in Psychology in 1973 from West Virginia University,
Dr. Solan earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1977. He
completed his residency in Family Practice at Riverside Hospital in Newport
News, Va., serving as Chief Resident from 1979 to 1980.
Dr. Solan is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by the
American Board of Family Practice. He has served on many important boards,
including the Trigon Blue Cross/Blue Shield Managed Care Advisory Panel for
Virginia. Dr. Solan says he loves family practice because he gets to "take
care of a little bit of everything." Two of several focal points of his
practice are depression and anxiety disorders.
Leon Spiers, III, M.D.
Dr. Spiers has practiced family medicine in Richmond for the past 20 years as a Partner at Commonwealth Primary Care, and will begin his new practice at Richmond's PartnerMD on May 1, 2006.
He has been an active leader in the Richmond medical community, and is also familiar to television viewers in Richmond as the physician face and voice of "Health Team Six," which aired on WTVR for a remarkable ten years, ending in 1998. He was also a health commentator on South Carolina's "Good Morning, Columbia" program.
Dr. Spiers is married and has three children, and his hobbies are hiking, travel and reading.
He has been chairman of the Department of Family Practice at both Saint Mary's Hospital and Henrico Doctors Hospital. He has also chaired a variety of other committees, and served on the credentials committees of both hospitals.
In addition, Dr. Spiers was Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia's Blackstone Family Practice Residency Program from 2002-2004.
He has been a fellow of, and is currently a member of, the American Academy of Family Practice, and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
David Wu-Pong, M.D.
A 2006 and 2007 Richmond Magazine “Top Doc” family physician, Dr. David Wu-Pong, joins PartnerMD in May 2007. Originally from Northern California, he has practiced medicine for the past 14 years in Virginia.
After receiving a B.A. in Biology with highest honors in 1986 from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Wu-Pong earned his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco in 1990. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Community Hospital of Sonoma County, Santa Rosa.
Dr. Wu-Pong is licensed by the State of California and the State of Virginia and certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He has been an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at VCU/MCV for first and second year medical students since 1995. He also has been the team physician for Deep Run High School in Glen Allen since 2001. Dr. Wu-Pong’s professional interests include women’s health, the treatment of mood disorders, and health promotion/disease prevention.
Dr. Wu-Pong lives in Richmond with his wife Susanna and his two sons. His hobbies include volleyball, fly-fishing, canoeing, and gardening.
Patricia Burkwall, M.D.
A native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Dr. Burkwall offers a wealth of internal medicine experience to the members of PartnerMD. She has completed extensive research on diabetes and has also published numerous medical journal articles on the subject. In addition, Dr. Burkwall has special treatment interests in the areas of hypertension, women's health and depression/mood disorders.
Prior to joining PartnerMD, Dr. Burkwall worked with Internal Medicine Associates of Virginia. She received her medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She has also received a master's degree in Molecular Physiology from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Dr. Burkwall and her husband David have two children and reside in Mechanicsville. In her spare time, she enjoys tennis, water skiing and hiking.

Mark Paster , M.D.
A Washingtonian Magazine “Top Doc,” Dr. Mark Paster has been selected to open the PartnerMD office of McLean. He is a family practice specialist and previously worked with primary care offices in Reston and Fairfax, Virginia. He has also acted as team physician for the Washington Rugby Football Club.
Dr. Paster earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where he was a member of the Academic Honors Association and Golden Key National Honor Society. He earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. While at Eastern Virginia Medical School, he was recognized with Honors in Ambulatory Family Medicine, Pathology of Trauma and Family Medicine Acting Internship. Dr. Paster completed his internship and residency at the Franklin Square Hospital Center, Department of Family Medicine, in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Paster is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of Northern Virginia.
In addition to providing comprehensive family medical care, he has specific treatment interests in sports medicine, diabetes and cardiac disease.
Dr. Paster is also an avid sailor who loves to cook, golf, read and spend time with his friends, family and Great Dane – Oliver.

Sandy Ibrahim , M.D.
Dr. Sandy Ibrahim has been selected to open the PartnerMD office located in McLean, Virginia. She is a family practice specialist and previously worked with primary care offices in both McLean and Fairfax, Virginia.
Dr. Ibrahim earned her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, with distinction, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Family Practice at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan - where she also served as the Administrative and Academic Chief Resident. She also participated in years of clinical and laboratory research at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor. These areas of research included cardiovascular function, the human genome project (namely identification and sequencing of the cystic fibrosis gene) and early research that led to the ECMO heart-lung machine.
Dr. Ibrahim is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine. She is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of Northern Virginia.
In addition to a providing comprehensive family medical care, she has specific treatment interests in endocrinology, allergies, women’s health, disease prevention and mood disorders/counseling.
Dr. Ibrahim and her husband live in Fairfax County. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, rowing and cooking.
Sherry Finneran, MS Ed., CFLE
Director, Executive Coaching Team
Sherry Finneran is a consulting executive and personal coach for
PartnerMD. She guides clients in their efforts to set specific goals,
focus on opportunities for growth and change, manage stress, and
achieve self-actualization.
Ms. Finneran is the co-founder and co-director of The Family
Education Center. Since 1975, she has become recognized as an
effective advisor to individuals, couples, families, and businesses.
Her expertise ranges from
problem-solving and stress management skills to parenting and
marriage enrichment skills. She developed and teaches courses in
team communication, mediation for business, family empowerment,
and communication for individuals and couples. She has served as
educational diagnostician in the Department of Psychiatry at the
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and has spent over thirty years in
private practice.
Ms. Finneran is adjunct faculty for the School of Business for the
University of Virginia, Certified Trainer for the Virginia Institute
of Social Services Training Association, and visiting instructor in
the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth
University.
Ms. Finneran earned her BA in Psychology and Special Education
from Loyola University in Chicago. She earned her Masters
Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. She is a Certified Family Life Educator.
Eric Oritt, Ph.D.
Executive Coaching Team
Dr. Eric Oritt is a member of the executive coaching team and a partner at The Westwood Group, a group behavioral health practice in the West End. He has been in full-time private
practice with this group for thirteen years. His specialty areas
include couples work and men’s issues. In addition, Dr. Oritt is an
adjunct clinical faculty member in the Department of Family Practice at
the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine where he works
with Family Practice residents, teaching behavioral medicine. Dr.
Oritt also acts as a consultant for Disability Determination Services,
a department of the Social Services Administration that evaluates
applications for disability benefits.
Dr. Oritt came to Richmond in 1985 to take a position as a staff
psychologist with the University Counseling Services at Virginia
Commonwealth University, seeing therapy patients and training graduate
students in psychology and social work, as well as psychiatry
residents. He left the position in 1993 for full-time private
practice.
Dr. Oritt earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and his master’s
degree and doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah
in Salt Lake City.

Mary Jane Sale, Ph.D.
Executive Coaching Team
Dr. Mary Jane Sale is a member of the executive coaching team. She assists Executive Physical clients in identification of lifestyle practices that relate to stress management and personal goal achievement.
Dr. Sale has conducted a general private practice of Clinical Psychology for over twenty-five years, working with adults, couples, families, children, and adolescents. Areas of expertise include learning, motivation and performance, and behavioral change. She has worked extensively with adults and children toward problem solution, adaptive behavior and enhanced performance.
Prior to establishing her independent practice, Dr. Sale was employed as a school psychologist with Richmond Public Schools and subsequently as a staff psychologist at Commonwealth Psychiatric Center in Richmond. She has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology’s graduate clinical program at Virginia Commonwealth University and as a Clinical Instructor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the VCU School of Medicine. Her volunteer efforts include work with the American Red Cross Mental Health Disaster Services and consultative services at her local church.
Dr. Sale earned her B.S. in Psychology from Richmond Professional Institute, and her M.S. in Applied Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Jan Elliott Evans, PhD, RD
Executive Evaluation Team Registered Dietician
Dr. Evans is a Behavior Change Agent and an expert in adult nutrition. She has over 22 years in the health management industry with a strong knowledge of human nutrition and dietetics, biochemistry, disease processes, and human and exercise physiology. She also possesses a comprehensive medical and clinical background with an emphasis upon human nutrition. With an astute knowledge and understanding of psychological and emotional issues surrounding weight management, nutrition and eating behavior, she has a proven ability to help others achieve their nutrition goals.
Dr. Evans is a Registered Dietician who received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Richmond, Virginia. She received her Doctorate from The College of William and Mary, Virginia. In addition to providing dietician consulting services to corporate entities, she is also a critical care dietician for Bon Secours Health System.

Sarah Boyd, R.D.
Executive Evaluation Team Registered Dietician
Sarah joined the Ukrop’s wellness team in November 2006. She graduated from James Madison University with a degree in dietetics and completed her dietetic internship with Sodexho Healthcare in Philadelphia, PA.
Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her work as an outpatient dietitian with VCU Healthsystem where she counseled patients on diabetes, heart disease, food allergies, cancer, gastrointestinal disease, medical weight loss, high risk obstetrics, and weight loss surgery. She is currently working toward her certified diabetes educator credentials and is a member of both the American Dietetic Association and the Richmond Dietetic Association. As a native Richmonder, Sarah has a passion for contributing to the health and well-being of our community.
Tina Tucci
Wellness Director
Tina Tucci manages the fitness and wellness department at PartnerMD. She works one on one with patients to help them achieve optimal health through proper diet and exercise habits. She also performs fitness and nutrition assessments and helps to organize bi-monthly fitness and nutrition workshops.
Tina has a B.S. in Human, Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech where she concentrated on Metabolic Nutrition, Exercise, Physiology, Kinesiology and Chemistry. She is currently certified through the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.) as a Personal Trainer and as a Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant.
Tina has experience working in the fitness industry on many levels. She has worked at several fitness facilities and training studios in the Richmond area as well as the Head Trainer at Virginia Tech’s on-campus fitness center and gym. She continues to be passionate about health and wellness and wants to motivate every patient to live a healthier lifestyle.
Kate Anderson, M.S.
Fitness Specialist
Kate Anderson is one of our resident trainers and fitness specialists for PartnerMD. She earned her bachelor’s of science in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech and her Master of Science in Kinesiology from James Madison University. She is currently certified with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health Fitness Instructor.

Kate moved here from Harrisonburg, Virginia where she was a personal trainer and a fitness assessment provider at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Wellness Center. She brings experience training and counseling persons of all ages and abilities. She also taught undergraduate courses in health and wellness at James Madison University. She is passionate about preventing chronic diseases through lifestyle modifications and enjoys working with members to begin exercise programs.
