Hailing from the Bronx, Dr. Matthew “Matt” Acampora grew up in a household that deeply respected science and medicine. His father had been in medical school during The Great Depression, but had to drop out to support his family.
Dr. Acampora picked up where his father left off, completing his medical studies at the Universidad del Noreste Escuela de Medicina with clinical rotations, rigorous oversight, testing, and evaluations at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
His medical expertise has always been well regarded. In fact, from 1994 to 1997, Dr. Acampora was part of a teaching practice in New Haven, Connecticut, at the prestigious Yale School of Medicine.
Dr. Acampora believes trust is critical since patients are entrusting their most precious commodities—their bodies—to his care. He likes to use this analogy to demonstrate what he means. “If I walked up to you in the parking lot and asked for the keys to your car and told you I was going to run a few tests, would you give me the keys? No. You don’t know me. You don’t trust me. But here I am asking for access to your body. So it’s essential that we develop a sense of mutual trust and respect first.”
He continues, “That’s one of the reasons I was attracted to PartnerMD. It’s a unique model that is based on mutual trust and respect between patient and doctor. Not to mention PartnerMD is an evidenced-based practice. We recommend treatments backed by science. We don’t sell procedures, products, or supplements.”
Dr. Acampora joined PartnerMD in 2014.
A very civic-minded man who is active in his faith community, Dr. Acampora makes his home in Waxhaw, North Carolina, with his wife. They have three grown daughters living in the Charlotte area.
