“I believe a trusting relationship is critical to success in healthcare. It’s hard to treat patients and restore health if they don’t trust you, and it’s difficult to develop that trust without time” he said. “That’s what I’m excited about getting back to at PartnerMD.”
Dr. Bishop loves spending the extra time he gets with his patients thanks to the concierge medicine model. He gets to know them personally and spends time learning their goals, their quirks, and what makes them unique.
He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed a residency in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He joined PartnerMD after working for five years as a physician of general medicine and primary care in VCU’s Department of Internal Medicine.
In addition to treating patients as an internal medicine physician, Dr. Bishop serves as Director of Wellness at PartnerMD.
In this role, he leads PartnerMD’s Wellness Program, which includes unlimited health coaching from our in-house, certified health coaches; nutritional assessments to help understand and improve daily eating; customized exercise routines; and more.
“Wellness goes beyond just diet and nutrition,” he said. “Learning what to eat is the easy part. It also includes physical activity, as well as psychological and spiritual well-being. The goal at PartnerMD is not to just get people through their next appointment, but to get them well and help them maintain it.”
Dr. Bishop works with his patients throughout the journey to true wellness and helps them see results that improve their lives. He takes a holistic approach to his patients’ wellness pursuits, helping them with diet and nutrition (particularly on keto and low-carb diets), stress, sleeping, food addiction and substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and more.
“You might be skinny, but that doesn’t mean you are necessarily well,” he said. “It’s important to see the full picture and work to improve across all areas.”
Dr. Bishop lives in Richmond with his wife, Rachel; his two children, Ellie and Liam; and their two giant labs, Bruce and Lucy. A Disney fanatic, he and his family make sure to visit Disney World twice a year (at least – he’s open to more). He also enjoys video games, technology, and traveling.
