Are you experiencing aches and pains in your shoulder, hip or knee? Maybe you wish you had better balance or more flexibility or could just move easier. Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner Mary Frances Hobbs will introduce participants to The Feldenkrais Method of gentle movement, which builds awareness and allows all those wonderful changes to take place while feeling younger and stronger with each session.

About the Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method is based on the principles of physics and biomechanics, an empirical understanding of human physiology, and the connection between mind and body. Practitioners use gentle movement and directed attention with the aim of increasing ease and range of motion, improving flexibility and coordination and ultimately rediscovering an innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. Because this method is gentle, non-invasive and does not force individuals through any movement they cannot do, there are very few if any instances where it should be avoided.

While frequently used to help ease stress and tension, the Feldenkrais Method has demonstrated success in the rehabilitation of stroke victims and others suffering from neurological injuries that cause disordered movement or a lack of coordination. Patients with orthopedic problems in bones and joints can use the Feldenkrais Method to assist in correcting poor posture or habits of movement that may cause pain.

About the Speaker

Mary Frances Hobbs is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner who graduated from the Baltimore Feldenkrais program in 2016. She has also completed advanced training with Ellen Solloway of New Orleans.

Her own path to the Feldenkrais Method came after much pain and finally hip surgery almost 20 years ago. Her lessons with a highly effective Feldenkrais Practitioner allowed her to maintain an active career as a laboratory science teacher, mother of two boys and busy member of her community. However, after retiring from teaching she realized that the good advice she had been given to attend the 4-year training might help her to “age gracefully” and deal with ongoing arthritis pain. Not only has that happened, she is now able to play on the floor with her grandchildren and help others to follow their own curiosity to find a way to Move in Ease.
