PartnerMD Launches First Insomnia Program in Richmond Focused on Cognitive Behavioral Sleep ImprovementWednesday, May 23. 2018
PartnerMD has launched SleepWell, Richmond’s first cognitive behavioral sleep improvement program. With health concerns growing around insomnia, PartnerMD is pleased to offer this to members and non-members to help them gain natural relief without medication.
“We see stress and the resulting lack of quality sleep growing in our patient population. Most people feel the short-term effects on their daily productivity and happiness, but research shows the long-term effects on our health including brain health,” said Dr. Jim Mumper, Chief Medical Officer at PartnerMD.
The series of classes will begin in June in a small group setting for more personal attention and optimized learning. Leading the class will be Jackie Oken, one of PartnerMD’s certified health coaches. Jackie is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Certified Sleep Science Coach.
According to the National Institutes of Health, sleep programs based on cognitive behavioral therapy are 75% effective in treating insomnia with lasting results. Trials showed greater total sleep time, less time to fall asleep, fewer waking periods and reduced medications. National statistics indicate that 33% of the U.S. population has insomnia nightly and 50% has insomnia at least a few nights per week.
SleepWell is the second wellness program PartnerMD has launched to its patients and the public in addition to its daily health coaching with members. They launched Wellbeing, a weight loss program, in 2016 that has proven to help participants have long-term weight loss with clinical health improvements. Both programs will be rolled out to PartnerMD’s other locations in 2018.
PartnerMD, a subsidiary of Markel Ventures, is a concierge medical practice specializing in primary care and executive health. Founded in 2003 in Richmond, VA, PartnerMD has seven offices across the Mid-Atlantic. Its patients pay a membership fee to have a smaller doctor-patient ratio and a stronger doctor-patient relationship with more time for doctors to know their patients and partner with them on their lifelong health. This includes 24/7 access, the latest in advanced testing, in-office health coaches and lab testing, all with a focus on prevention.
