Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
"My favorite part is seeing patients improve their health and their lives as a result of our doctor-patient relationship. Seeing meaningful progress occur is very rewarding."
As a board-certified internal medicine physician in Midlothian, VA, Dr. Vicki Latham-Solomon places preventive care at the heart of her relationships with her patients.
"I chose to become a primary care physician because I wanted to make a difference in helping people prevent illness, not just treat it," Dr. Latham-Solomon says.
Dr. Latham-Solomon has particular experience treating adults with chronic medical issues such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. She frequently helps patients identify red flags of illness that could surface in the future.
She also has extensive experience helping women of all ages manage their health, including perimenopause, postmenopause, and the physical, psychological, and social aspects associated with aging.
"Many people entering their 40s, 50s, and even 60s have medical issues they can work on right now to feel better, but also have a fear of future illness," she says. "I enjoy working with those patients to address those concerns, as well as to create an action plan to help allay those fears."
Dr. Latham-Solomon earned her medical degree from the VCU School of Medicine (then known as MCV) and completed her internal medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). She also completed an internal medicine internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington D.C.
Before joining PartnerMD, Dr. Latham-Solomon practiced as a physician in the Richmond area at Commonwealth Primary Care and Bon Secours. She starts at PartnerMD in late September 2023.
As the daughter of two physicians, Dr. Latham-Solomon grew up around medicine and knows the importance of having an empathetic, honest relationship with a physician you can trust.
"The most important part of my philosophy is that you understand that we are working together, and this is a collaborative effort," Dr. Latham-Solomon says. "I am your partner in pursuing the best health outcome possible."
She believes in connecting with her patients and learning about who they are as a person because she believes that helps put together a more complete picture of health.
"In treating a patient it's very important to know who they are, their support system, and their medical and personal history," she says.
"From there, we can dive into what's concerning you right now, and what is worrying you about the future."
A Richmond native, Dr. Latham-Solomon cherishes spending time with her family, including her husband, daughter, and their immediate extended family in the area.
On the weekends you can find her staying active, including biking on the Capital Trail, reading the newest bestseller, or cooking (her specialty is Mediterranean).
Dr. Latham-Solomon is also active in her church and speaks on medical topics at churches and organizations in the community.
