Meet Dr. Chopski

Dr. Benjamin Chopski grew up around medicine. He’s a third-generation internal medicine physician, and his parents owned a mom-and-pop pharmacy.

Despite the family history, Dr. Chopski initially took a different path by studying both economics and religious studies. But he realized that medicine was his true calling and returned to a lesson his grandmother taught him.

"She taught me that God gives each of us unique gifts," Dr. Chopski says. "When you have a gift, you have a responsibility to use it to help others."

As a board-certified internist and concierge doctor in Midlothian, VA, Dr. Chopski helps others by providing thoughtful, compassionate care tailored for each patient. He digs under the surface to address the root cause of health concerns and personalizes his care for what is best for that individual.

"I want to know where you are in your health journey and how you understand your health." he says. "Then we can identify the best approach for your care and build a plan that is best suited for you."

Before joining PartnerMD, Dr. Chopski served as a hospitalist and associate professor of medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine at VCU Health. Hospitalists are the primary care physicians for admitted patients and oversee their day-to-day care.

Through that experience, he developed expertise in treating complex and chronic medical problems and providing recommendations for patients to live healthier, including nutrition and medication management. As a teacher, he strongly believes in education to empower patients to manage their own health.

Dr. Chopski is excited about practicing in a primary care setting because of the opportunity to get ahead of potential illness and disease.

"In the hospital, we stabilize things...we patch you up," he says. "But the best way to treat something is to stay ahead of it and work to prevent it in the first place. The best heart attack is the one you never have. That’s what is possible in good primary care and why I’m excited to help patients at PartnerMD."

Dr. Chopski: Beyond the Exam Room

Outside the office, Dr. Chopski loves spending time with his wife and daughter. He is enthusiastic about the outdoors, especially backpacking and kayaking.

For over a decade, he’s volunteered as a wilderness medicine educator with academic and community groups.

"We teach other healthcare professionals how to use their skills in a new way to go beyond basic first aid. So if you’re sick on the trail or take a fall climbing, we can manage that," he says.

Dr. Chopski also loves theology, the study of religion, and playing strategy board games like Risk or Settlers of Catan. He and his wife frequently open their home to rescue senior dogs.

"We started doing that during COVID and found it very rewarding," he says. "At one point, we were up to seven senior dogs in the house. Since our daughter was born, we have placed a limit on two at a time."
