As a board-certified internist and concierge doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Lauren Goode is passionate about helping her patients take control of their health. Dr. Goode believes that medicine isn’t just about treating illness — it’s about building relationships, understanding people’s lives, and guiding them toward long-term wellness.

"I want my patients to feel heard and understood," she says. "Healthcare is a partnership. My role is to educate, support, and empower my patients so they can make the best choices for their health."

Dr. Goode’s path to medicine wasn’t a straight one. She originally wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working as a paramedic in the City of Alexandria, she realized her true calling was helping people. Seeing the same patients repeatedly in emergency situations made her want to do more — she wanted to help them before they got to that point.

"I loved being a paramedic, but I wanted to do more than respond to crises — I wanted to help prevent them," she says. "That’s what drew me to primary care. It allows me to develop relationships with my patients and help them make meaningful changes to improve their health."

As a firm believer in preventive medicine, she emphasizes the power of sleep, exercise, nutrition, and hydration. "So much can improve just by focusing on the basics," she says.

Dr. Goode is passionate about helping patients on the verge of problematic health conditions — those who can dramatically change their health with the right support — and she also loves working with patients who’ve struggled to find the right doctor.

"There’s no such thing as an unmotivated patient," she says. "If they haven’t made progress, it’s often because no one took the time to go the extra mile for them."

For Dr. Goode, one of the biggest benefits of concierge medicine is time — time to educate her patients, uncover roadblocks, and truly understand their needs.

"If a patient isn’t taking their medication, there’s always a reason," she says. "I want to find out why, not just write another prescription."

She also enjoys collecting books, gardening, hiking, photography, and camping — especially RV trips with her husband.
