As a board-certified family physician and concierge doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Matthew Paine is committed to helping you feel heard, respected, and truly cared for. He focuses on building real relationships and helping you take meaningful steps toward better health.
"Everyone is an individual who deserves respect and time," he says. “That means listening closely, understanding your goals, and giving you the space and tools needed to take control of your health."
Dr. Paine takes the time to get to know you beyond the chart. He wants to understand what brought you to where you are today, what your values are, and what you really want out of your health and your life.
Whether your goal is to stay active with your grandkids, perform at a high level at work, or simply feel better day to day, he’s here to help you get there.
With additional certification in obesity medicine, Dr. Paine helps patients understand how excess weight affects the body and increases risks for conditions like heart disease and cancer.
His approach includes applying evidence-based therapeutic interventions that establish sustainable lifestyle change, considering the role of medication when appropriate, and supporting patients through bariatric surgery when needed.
He believes in personalized care built on trust, time, and collaboration. That’s what led him to family medicine in the first place: the opportunity to care for the whole person through every season of life.
"I want every patient to feel like they've finally found someone who truly listens," he says. "We’re going to dig into what’s going on and walk through life together. I get to know their stories, their families, their stress. It’s hard sometimes, but that’s where the reward is."
In a first appointment, Dr. Paine takes time to understand your experiences, your concerns, and how ready you are to make change.
His goal is for every patient to leave feeling supported, not rushed, and confident in their care.

Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
"The most rewarding part of being a doctor is building real relationships and seeing people make meaningful change. When someone reaches a goal or takes back control of their health, that’s what makes it all worth it."
Outside the office, Dr. Paine enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, woodworking, hiking, traveling, being involved in his church, and cheering on his kids at soccer and gymnastics.
