Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
“I like the long-term relationships you develop with patients. Getting to know them on a personal level — their families, their jobs, their interests — allows them to feel more comfortable with you, improving the doctor-patient relationship.”

About Dr. Carr

As a board-certified internal medicine physician in Owings Mills, MD, Dr. Eric J. Carr works with his patients primarily to prevent illnesses from occurring in the first place.

“Prevention has to be a big part of everyone’s medical care,” Dr. Carr says. “Once a health issue develops and becomes more advanced, it’s much more difficult to treat and get under control. Working together to prevent medical problems from developing leads to longer and more productive lives.”

Dr. Carr accomplishes this by working with his patients to lead healthier lifestyles and stressing the importance of performing regular health screenings. When medical problems do arise, Dr. Carr makes sure to include his patients in the discussion regarding how to best manage their care.

“I don’t like to dictate care. Including the patient in the decision-making process for their own care allows them to feel more comfortable with the treatment they are receiving, which results in better outcomes. Primary care is more than just making a medical diagnosis. It’s about helping patients live better, healthier lives.”

While Dr. Carr didn’t officially begin his career until completing his residency more than 20 years ago, he knew what he wanted to be pretty early in his life.

“My first interest in medicine started back in second grade,” he says. “I was sick at home on my birthday and my second-grade teacher brought me The Question and Answer Book About the Human Body. I was fascinated by this book! Initially, I thought I would become a veterinarian since I loved animals, but as I got older I realized my true calling was caring for people. My career path was set!”

Dr. Carr will join PartnerMD in June 2022. He previously spent almost 15 years as the lead physician at Greater Baltimore Medical Center Health Partners in Timonium.

Dr. Carr's Philosophy of Care

Dr. Carr takes a broad focus with his patients at first, focusing on bigger problems before honing in on the core areas of health – nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, etc.

“I like to listen,” he says. “I can often figure out what’s going on by listening to what my patients are telling me and asking the right questions even before putting the stethoscope on. Concierge medicine allows me to do this, giving me the time to practice medicine the way I’ve always wanted to.”

And with every patient, the relationship begins with understanding where they’ve come from, where they are, and where they want to be.

“Every patient is different, but I want to know the reason you are in my office,” he says. “I want to understand your problems and concerns. And I want to know what your goals are so I can help you achieve them.”

Dr. Carr: Beyond the Exam Room

Dr. Carr has spent his entire life in Maryland and loves spending time with his wife and their four children.

He has spent a lot of his free time in the spring and summer coaching his sons’ baseball teams, from tee-ball all the way up to travel baseball.

When he is not coaching, you can find him on the golf course, or doing some project around the house.

A diehard sports fan, in the fall you can catch him spending Saturday afternoons in College Park tailgating at Maryland Terrapin football games and Sunday afternoons cheering on the Ravens.

And, he continues to hold on to the hope that his beloved Orioles will return to their winning ways very soon!
