Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
"The relationships and the experiences I hear about from my patients, and the value you can provide by caring for someone when they are most vulnerable. It’s very rewarding.”
As a primary care physician in Sandy Springs, GA, Dr. Jennifer Tutt believes when patients have an improved understanding of their overall health, they can make more informed decisions that help them live a happier, healthier life.
While she is board-certified specifically in family medicine, Dr. Tutt has focused extensively on adult patients over more than two decades of practicing medicine. She frequently helps patients manage issues like diabetes, hypertension, COPD, osteoporosis, and asthma, as well as the complex issues that often arise for geriatric patients.
“Through education, I can help you get moving in the right direction,” she says. “And then once we get going in the right direction, that’s when we can really see a difference in terms of lowering your comorbidities and improving how you feel and the way you live.”
Dr. Tutt began her career in Georgia at Winn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart, and she has also practiced in Texas and Colorado.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Hampton University in Virginia, and she earned her medical degree from Drexel University.
Dr. Tutt first took an interest in medicine after a knee injury in high school.
“While I had to officially retire from playing volleyball, I thought the entire process around getting treated for my knee injury was the coolest thing.”
After going to medical school, she took an interest in primary care because of the variety of issues and concerns it allows her to help patients with. And over time, she’s gained valuable experience treating adults.
“I treat patients like they are a family member. I treat them how I would want my parents to be treated,” Dr. Tutt says. “To do the best for a patient, that requires spending the time to listen to them, so you can get the whole picture and really help them take better care of themselves.”
As someone who lived in the Denver area for many years, including while growing up, Dr. Tutt is a huge Denver sports fan, specifically the Broncos and the Nuggets.
At home, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their golden retriever. She also is passionate about interior design and architecture, and she loves working around the house on a variety of home improvement projects.
“If I hadn’t gone into medicine, I probably would have done some form of home architecture and interior design,” she says.
