With more than 30 years of experience as a board-certified family medicine doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Jim Mumper’s calm, confident manner enables him to develop trusted relationships with his patients and guide them on their journey to lifelong health.
"My goal, every time I see a patient, is to show kindness," Dr. Mumper says. "I want to have them leave the building feeling like their need was met, and that they know what they need to do until the next time I see them."
Dr. Mumper has particular expertise in several areas, including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and infectious diseases. He has been the principal investigator in more than 25 Phase II, III, and IV clinical trials dealing with these areas.
He believes the foundation of care is based on a trusting relationship between patient and doctor and getting there begins with the first meeting.
"When I first meet a patient, I want to learn what their concerns or worries are," he says. "Then, I begin to learn who they are as a person, how they want to live, and what matters the most to them," he says. "From there, we can get to work on achieving their goals."
Dr. Mumper lives in Manakin-Sabot, Va., with his wife. He enjoys spending time with his grown two children and spoiling his grandchildren as much as possible.
As a family, they have a special place in their hearts for Hilton Head Island but have always had some incredible trips to the Southwestern United States.
He is also an avid golfer and loves to watch UVA sports (Go ‘Hoos!).
