As a board-certified internist and concierge doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Roger Shih works with patients within the context of their own lives to improve their health through personalized care.
He focuses heavily on preventive care to combat illness upfront and has extensive experience helping to manage chronic conditions.
"I consider my patients’ stories not merely through the lens of medicine," Dr. Shih says. "I want to understand what makes them happy, what makes them human, what their life and family are like, and think about the right course of care while considering the whole picture."
Dr. Shih began his medical career as a flight commander and internist in the U.S. Air Force. He chose primary care because it allows him to think holistically about their care and work across many disciplines to provide care.
"Primary care isn’t just about treating one complaint from a patient," Dr. Shih says. "It’s about thinking about the situation longitudinally to address the root cause."
For Dr. Shih, being a physician is about having a tangible impact on someone’s life. He loves teaching, witnessing growth, and watching the transition as people get healthier.
He combines his traditional internal medicine education and background with a holistic approach to help patients achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
When asked how he thinks his patients would describe him, Dr. Shih says, "Straightforward. Honest. Doesn’t sugarcoat. And above all, a fierce advocate for my patients."
In addition to seeing patients as a primary care physician, Dr. Shih serves as PartnerMD’s Director of Medical Advancements. In this role, he evaluates and educates PartnerMD’s clinicians and staff on cutting-edge technology, treatment, and care that can be used to improve the lives of our patients.
Outside the office, Dr. Shih enjoys spending time with his family and raising his three young sons.
He is a classically trained pianist, and he has also been known to perform in Improv Theatres if given the opportunity.
