Lifestyle & Wellness | School of Metabolic Health | Wellness

Are you looking to maintain a healthy weight in 2021? PartnerMD's health coaches offer six simple tips to help you achieve that goal, from meal plans to exercise to organization. Watch the video below and read on for a transcript.

Tip #1: Stop eating when full.

Your wellness tip for maintaining a healthy weight is to stop eating when you're full. It's okay if you have a little food left on your plate. Plan to box it up and enjoy it at a later time.

Tip #2: Find a support system.

Hi everyone. One tip for maintaining a healthy weight is having a support system. Whether that's friends, family, or coworkers, having someone there to cheer you on really helps.

Tip #3: Get your cardio in.

Maintaining a healthy weight is not only from the energy you take in through food, but it's also from the energy you expend through cardiovascular exercise. There's only one way known to mankind, other than a fever, to burn the calories that we store as energy.

And that is through the heat we produce through cardiovascular exercise. So find out how to calculate your target heart rate so you can get the optimum weight-maintaining benefit from your cardio.

Tip #4: Work out with a purpose.

Maintain a healthy weight this year by working out with a purpose. Whether that's to reduce stress, lose weight, or you're training for an event, find the exercises that are right for you and that will help best achieve your goal. Write your exercise routine down before you work out. This will help you stay accountable while you're exercising, and you can always refer back to it for progressions at a later date. Be conscious about your warmup. Take your time. Do it correct. And that will help prevent injuries in the future.

Tip #5: Plan your meals.

If you want to make better food choices in the new year, you might want to think about menu planning. This can be done the Sunday before the week or a couple of days beforehand, or even a couple of hours before you have to make a choice. The main thing is that you plan your menu before you're in the heat of the moment. This way you might be able to make better choices.

Tip #6: Stay organized.

Stay organized. Staying organized is going to be key for you to implement any new changes you're trying to do. So anyone can print out a new workout, a new nutritional program that they want to do, but how are you going to actually implement it? Are you going to be scheduling your workout times? Have you come up with a game plan for grocery lists? Your meal plans? Really map your world out as you start a new journey in order to have more success.
