Stress is a universal human experience, but when it becomes chronic, it can take a real toll on your health.
According to the American Psychological Association, chronic stress affects nearly every system of the body and, over time, can contribute to issues like heart disease, high blood pressure, poor sleep, weight changes, and weakened immunity.
At PartnerMD, our certified health coaches work one-on-one with you to understand your unique challenges and provide personalized strategies to help manage stress more effectively.
Access to health coaching is included with your PartnerMD membership, giving you tools and ongoing support to build sustainable habits that improve your overall well-being and support long-term health.
When you make a stress-management appointment with a PartnerMD health coach, here's what you can expect and how that session can set the stage for lasting change.
Your first appointment is dedicated to discovery. We'll explore:
What’s contributing to your current stress? It could stem from work, family dynamics, changes in routine, or new life challenges.
The nature of that stress. Is it acute, meaning tied to a specific event or deadline, or chronic, a persistent underlying pressure? Clarifying this distinction helps tailor effective strategies.
Your triggers and habits. What concrete situations or patterns, such as certain tasks, environments, or interactions, tend to spark stress for you? We will also explore how you typically respond or behave when you feel stressed.
We’ll examine how you're currently coping. Do you have healthy outlets, or are there unintended consequences, such as emotional eating or disrupted sleep? Stress can manifest in behaviors like overeating, fatigue, poor sleep, or tense relationships. Understanding these patterns gives us a starting point for change.
We’ll collaboratively explore practical, realistic strategies that align with your life and preferences. Some examples may include:
Breathing techniques to calm the nervous system
Structured mindfulness practices to manage daily stress
Habit tracking to identify and adjust behavioral patterns
Scheduled “pause moments” to reset during overwhelming situations
Each recommendation will be carefully chosen and mutually agreed upon during your session.
You'll leave with manageable tasks designed to cultivate awareness and begin shifting habits. These may include:
Journaling about stress patterns or triggers
Tracking reactions to better understand emotional responses
Practicing one small coping exercise to build resilience
Even subtle changes, like pausing to breathe before reacting, can lay the groundwork for meaningful progress.
Subsequent appointments serve to review what worked, refine strategies, and introduce new tools. Your health coach monitors your progress closely by addressing challenges, celebrating small wins, and reinforcing new behaviors. As habits deepen, resilience grows.
